The Wise Women Project: Celebrate, Illuminate, Create

October 02, 2010

As I was gearing up for the promotion of my contemporary romance, The Still Life of Hannah Morgan, published this month by Marion Margaret Press, I was struck by how this success could not have come about without the help and encouragement from the circle of women I am blessed to call friends.

In fact, the quality of my life and my ability to navigate through the rough patches are directly linked to these amazing women. My girlfriends have celebrated my successes, illuminated the darkness I sometimes found myself in and collaborated with me, providing sound advice and ideas that have helped me realize my dreams. Sometimes, using their lives as an example of what is possible in my own has been an even more invaluable gift.

As the major theme of my novel is having the courage to realize your dreams, I thought there was no better way to celebrate the birthing of this book than by sharing these women’s stories of discovering their creative side and sharing their wisdom born from their experiences. For some, they have turned their passion into a full time career, for others they have incorporated what they love into the daily fabric of their lives and yet others have found their creative outlet in unexpected places.

Starting in Mid-October, over an eleven-week period, I will be posting these extraordinary women's stories in a collection of essays I’ve called The Wise Women Project. The purpose of the project is to celebrate these women’s achievements, to illuminate the process of infusing passion into everyday life, and to create a varied blueprint of what the journey to an authentic life looks like.

"The longer you choose to play it safe, the more miserable your life will become. The universe rewards risk my dear; you know what you need to do."

Hannah Morgan's life is at a standstill. Her dreams of becoming an artist vanished with the sudden death of her grandmother and mentor. To appease her distant and disapproving mother, Hannah gets a respectable job at a high-end day spa.

Instead of painting masterpieces, Hannah spends her days painting nails and giving facials to wealthy women. Her dreams for the future have become a hideous nightmare. And it just keeps getting worse. She catches her boyfriend cheating, loses her job, and has to watch from the sidelines as her best friend, Jasmine Blue, goes after her own dreams of owning her own salon.

Then she meets Aaron, a working artist, and finds in him a kindred spirit. And, to her surprise, she finds the courage to follow her dreams. When circumstances beyond her control threaten to destroy both her relationship with Aaron and her dreams of a bright future, Hannah fears her mother was right-that some dreams aren't meant to come true.

Hannah Has Found A Home

June 21, 2010

A few days after publishing my last post, I was thrilled to find a new home for THE STILL LIFE OF HANNAH MORGAN. My contemporary romance is scheduled for re-release the fall of 2010.

I've seen the first concepts for the book cover and I'm tickled blue and purple (that's the only hint your going to get for now) about the look. Its so much more of what I envisioned and definitely reflects the storyline.

Check back later and I'll have more info about release dates and contests.
